- Naturally insect‑repellent and moisture‑regulating, helping keep rice fresh and free from mould
- Practical sliding lid for easy handling of heavy rice and effortless cleaning
For generations in Japan, paulownia boxes have been trusted for safely storing both clothing and food in everyday life. Rich in tannin, paulonin, and sesamin, paulownia naturally helps repel insects, and its porous structure (full of tiny air pockets) gives it excellent moisture‑regulating abilities.
Crafted from thick, solid paulownia, this rice bin protects your staple grain from insects and mold, even in the high humidity and strong seasonal changes of a Japanese kitchen. Built without a single nail or metal fitting, it showcases the refined craftsmanship of Kasukabe City in Saitama Prefecture, renowned for its paulownia boxes.
The sliding‑door opening lets you remove the entire lid, making it easy to handle heavy rice and to keep the inside clean.
You can also store multiple varieties of rice by placing each one in a cloth bag and keeping them together in the bin.
If you place the box in a well‑ventilated, cool, dark area, away from damp spots and direct sunlight, you can store rice in it comfortably throughout the year.
When the rice becomes low, avoid simply topping it up; empty and replace it entirely. At that time, wipe the inside with a well‑wrung cloth, allow it to dry completely, and only then add fresh rice.
