Kame Mannen is one of the oldest eyeglass brand in Japan, begins with the plating factory "Kimura Seisakusho", which was founded in Fukui City in 1917. The brand name Kamemannen is named after the saying "Crane lives for a thousand years and a turtle lives for a million years" from the desire of the founder Kikujiro Kimura to make glasses that are durable and can be used habitually for a long time.
The surface treatment selected for making of each pair of Kame Mannen glasses are precious metal plating and highly durable ion plating. Ion plating is a delicate surface treatment with excellent adhesion because it takes time and effot, and it is one of the technologies necessary to achieve the quality that the brand pursues.
Kame Mannen glasses are carefully hand-made by skilled craftsman in Sabae, Japan. Sabae city is located in Fukui perfecture in Japan, and it is known as one of most famous city in the world for high quality eyewear making. Glasses making in Sabae began more than 100 years ago, in the Hokuriku region on the Sea of Japan side of the Japanese archipelago. Sabae's eyeglass making has developed into a representative industry of this region with the times while repeating technological innovation and succession.

To make our selection, we travel to Japan several times per year and draw on the knowledge of our Japanese curator friends. We attend many trade shows to find new products in that are being produced.
