One thing you should be aware of, it is extremely rude in Japanese culture to put soy sauce directly on white rice. We are a country that really loves our rice so if you want to be culturally informed please never do that.

It’s ok for sushi, rice that is in soup, cooking with fried rice, adding to soups, but never directly on plain white rice.
